America’s most prestigious rehabilitation hospital, the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, relaunched as the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in a new, 27-story, 1.2 million-square-foot building. EGG Office developed a comprehensive graphics and wayfinding program that communicates the spirit, mission and values of the institution through the physical space while contributing to patients’ healing processes.
The graphics help create distinct environments for each of the five ability labs, applied research and therapeutic spaces: Arms + Hands Lab, Legs + Walking Lab, Strength + Endurance Lab, Think + Speak Lab, and Pediatrics Lab. Each environment is designed to uplift the spirit, and to motivate recovery and rehabilitation for specific types of injuries and conditions. We created ceiling graphics throughout the building, including an iconic pair at the ground level and 10th floor Sky Lobby, that establish the institution’s identity.
For the brand relaunch, our graphic design work, including original AbilityLab iconography, has been incorporated into digital, print and event collateral.
